He is known especially for his landscapes and flower and bird paintings. Suikoku was a very influential Japanese painter, especially valued for his precise technique and beautiful use of color. Ohashi Suiseki was Suikoku's teacher and had a great influence on his style. It is therefore correct to say that Suikoku was a disciple of Suiseki. The guidance he received from Suiseki is clearly visible in his work.
